The 69th season of racing at the Del Mar
Racetrack featured the second highest attendance in the history of the
oceanfront track. The 44,181 in attendance where also part of an historic first
for the iconic event. The X1FM Network and the Chris Cantore show produced the
first live web-cast in the history of the racetrack.
Long before the sun was out, the X1FM network production
team headed to the track to setup a state-of-the-art on-location broadcasting facility.
As audio and video equipment paired with other esoteric devices that hummed in
unison while the sights and sounds from the racetrack were beamed live to the
world.
As a sea of elegantly clad hopeful winners paraded through the
gates of the racetrack the crew from the Chris Cantore show talked to past champion
jockeys, horse owners and some of the many beautiful ladies who donned the
elaborate headgear that has become a track tradition since 1995.
While camera crews roamed through the fields of the Del Mar, engineers,
producers and talent worked closely together to bring the best coverage from
the racetrack. Before long a group of X1FM listeners rallied around the
production facility to chat and say hello to the many members from the X1FM
crew. By the end of our morning show, the X1FM facility had turned into an impromptu
listener reunion igniting a renewed passion and bringing into perspective the
link between listeners turned participants and the entertainers that make the
X1FM family.
By the end of the day, as we gathered our equipment and got
ready to leave the facility, we said good-bye to the many friends that had
followed our station and the many more that we met during the first day of the
races, at old Del
Mar.
We left with the joy of knowing the X1FM Network had written another chapter in
the history of a place that is truly a part of San Diego.
