The Doors was an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles by vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robby Krieger. They were a controversial band, due mostly to Morrison΄s cryptic lyrics and unpredictable stage persona[citation needed]. Since the band΄s dissolution in 1972 — and especially since Morrison΄s death in 1971 — interest in the Doors΄ music has remained high, especially from the Morrison era. They have sold over 45 million albums in the US alone, and still sell approximately 1 million annually.
