Remember the ska movement? Reel Big Fish? Safe Ferris? No Doubt - you know... before all the drama?
Well - I'd like to take us back to that happy time when "Hey - this is the 90's".... I mean, shoot, what are we in now... the zeroes?
I had a really hard time picking out which song I wanted to play, because each and every song off that album: Tragic Kingdom, brought so many awesome memories to mind.
At the end of going through it, however, i had to go with my gut: Tragic Kingdom. I remember playing this song on repeat -...

What is it with bands that sell out... I mean, when you think about it - Sugar Ray's first album was hard rock.... almost exclusively.... except for ONE random song called "Fly" that seemed way out of place. Suddently the song goes mainstream, and the single is a hit - to the dismay of everyone that buys the CD, that is the ONLY song like it. So what does Sugar Ray do? They make a new album entirely made of poppy singles that in my opinion, sound like an entirely different band.
Same thing happened with smash mouth. Album number one...

What can i saw about Sergio Mendez.... that he was a revolutionary in the bossa nova genre? That he has released over 35 albums? That he is a bonafied pimp daddy?
Yes. I'm sure you've heard the song "Mas Que Nada", whether it be the original, in a commercial, or a background song in a trailer - you've heard it. What you probably have NEVER heard is the version that came out 2 years ago with Will.I.Am on the album "Timeless".
It was one of those albums that was so important, but never got spinned on any radio stations - because the...

Today's pick of the day is Letter Kills - R.I.P. - a San Diego based band that ended up breaking up about 2 years ago. The lead singer decided to change from alternative music to country and moved to nashville. Really.
In any case - I got a chance to see these guys play one of their first shows of all time at Point Loma Nazarene University about 5 years ago - and moved up and up from there, until finally they opened for Story of the Year and My Chemical Romance on the mainstage at SOMA for the Nintendo Fusion...

I wouldn't say that I'm a Van Halen fan... I would say, however, that I have tremendous respect for the man, and absolutely love jammin' to the guitar work. For this reason, I'm playing one of my favorite Van Halen songs - Humans Being.
Now - I know many of you are probably saying things like... "What?! that is soooo not the best Van Halen song, etc.", and though this may be true, it is MY PICK of the day, not yours! HA!
The reason I like this song so much, is probably because it's not full steam Van Halen the whole...

Today's band is a choice selection from the twice-grammy nominated band: The Presidents of the United States of Amerca! Yes, the band that did that song "Peaches", which all the ladies tend to sing along with, but never seem to realize the quite sexual nature of the song... I'll let you go google the lyrics to that one on your own! HA!
Today, however, I'm going to pick something that mainstream radio tends to skip over... something a bit more odd, and a bit more interesting. If you ask me, this is my favorite song the band ever recorded - even...

There are so many great songs by Kaiser Chiefs, that it took me a while to decide between "Oh my god", "Ruby", and "The Angry Mob".... but alas - i had to pick one... so...
RUBY - the bands first chart topping hit.
I love everything about this song - it has all the elements that make me dig it - a catchy guitar lick, the verse mellows you out, and gets you ready to sing along again.
Hope you guys dig it!

Today's pick of the day is Karate - from Boston, Mass. They started in 1993, and broke up in 2005.... sadly. The song is "Sever" off the album Unsolved. Though they did break up, they recently released a live record in 2007!
The reason i like this song so much is the amount of dynamics involved. They take you from soft, to hard, to deep and bassy, to sharp again - it's a song that takes you on a trip - not a 3 minute power single - but a true artistic expression.
Hope you dig the jams!
